Keystone Websites

About Keystone Websites

Our location

According to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, it is not precisely known when the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was first called the Keystone State, but the central stone in an arch has become intimately associated with Pennsylvania. Other sources suggest that Pennsylvania was named the Keystone State because there were 6 of the original 13 states above it, and 6 below it. As a Pennsylvania-based company keen to work with local organizations and individuals, it seemed appropriate to honor that association.

Keystone Websites was based in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes southwest of Philadelphia. Swarthmore is home to Swarthmore College, the alma mater of Ted Nelson (who coined the term hypertext) and three Nobel Prize winners (biologists David Baltimore and Howard Temin, and chemist Christian Anfinsen). In 2012, the company moved to Sadsburyville.

Our people

Keystone Websites was founded in 2003 by Simon Jessey, a website designer and web standards evangelist. Originally from the United Kingdom, Simon spent 12 years working in a London-based television production company as a videotape editor. Since leaving England in 2001, Simon has been indulging his passion for the World Wide Web.

Guild of Accessible Web Designers

Our philosophy

The main function of any website is to inform a user. At Keystone Websites, we believe that the best way to ensure a website fulfills its main purpose is to create designs that are simple, elegant, accessible, and functional. We do not believe that this ideal should be at the cost of attractive design, and we strive to deliver a final product that looks as good as it functions. Our goal is to create websites that can be experienced by anyone, using a variety of web-enabled tools, and we achieve this magic by making use of standardized technologies. Keystone Websites is a member of the Guild of Accessible Web Designers (GAWDS) - a world-wide association of organisations and accessible web designers and developers.

Our benefits

By using web standards to create your website, development costs are minimized, resulting in lower costs for you. Your streamlined site consumes less bandwidth, is optimized to take full advantage of Internet technologies that may emerge in the future, and is easily updated, reducing your costs still further.
